Love Came Down!

Love came down on Christmas day!

John tells us in 1John 4:9, “ In this, the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world that we might live through Him.”

God sent His Son, who is love, on Christmas Day to us.

God loved us so much that He sent love down to us in the person of His Son. It is truly amazing that God sent down “love” to us. Our Lord Jesus Christ who is perfect love, willingly came down to earth for us on Christmas Day. His coming was prophesied hundreds of years ago. By the inspiration of God, the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Behold a virgin shall give conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel. Matthew tells us that the name Immanuel means, “God with us.

In these words, we are shown that the child to be born is God. Jesus is God and is love and came down to us on Christmas day. Even the exact location of His birth was prophesied hundreds of years ago too. Micah wrote, “But you, O  Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for Me One who is to be a ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Love came down and was born in a stable in Bethlehem. There was no soft bed as was fitting the Lord of the Universe, the Almighty Son of God. So Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger. What Love! What a great wonder of Christmas that the little baby in Bethlehem is the almighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Indeed great is the mystery of godliness that God was made manifest in the flesh. What marvellous and condescending love on the part of God that He should give His Son for a world of lost sinners. Can there be a greater love than this?

Why did ‘Love’ come down on Christmas day?

John tells that we might live through Him (1 John 4:9). The fact that God sent His Son into the world that we might live through Him, presupposes that without Him we must die. And such is the case. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God and the wages of sin is death. The soul that sins shall die. Death, eternal death and misery are what we have merited by our sins.

How shall we escape such a terrible sentence?

Seeing our helpless condition and moved by His great love, God provided a means of escape from death. He sent His Son to be our Savior from sin, death and hell.

‘Love’ came down to rescue us.

Our Lord Jesus by His perfect obedience kept the law of God on our behalf. To pay for the penalty of our sins, He bled and died for us on the cross. Through this, our Lord Jesus purchased eternal life for us. Life is to be found in Jesus alone. He who has the Son has life. This is the reason that ‘Love’ came down that we might live through Him. He is the way, the truth and the life.

So this Christmas, let us thank God for His inexpressible gift for us.

Have you accepted God’s gift of His Son and believed in Him?

Without Him, there is certain death and misery. With Him, there is life, love and liberty. Let us also share this gift of love with others.

Our theme in 2019 is, ‘Spreading the aroma of Jesus.’ Jesus is the most pleasant aroma for He loved us and gave Himself for us. Love came down and blessed us with forgiveness, life and grace.

A blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
