Welcome to Green Pastures Child Centre

About Us

Founded in 1984, Green Pastures was formed by a group of God-loving and devoted parents - including Dr and Mrs Leong Seng Kee and the late Mr Ng Ek Khiam - for the sole purpose of reaching out and providing a church-based childcare to the families living in and around the neighbourhood.

Our Centre takes in children from ages 18 months to 6 years. As one of the most affordable childcare centres in the Bukit Timah area and with low staff attrition rate, we attract both Christian and non-Christian parents as the church-based centre is seen to excel at instilling moral values. Currently, 25% of our students are Japanese.

Child-Centred Approach

We provide a conducive and supportive environment to facilitate children’s learning and development in

the social, physical, intellectual, creative, emotional and spiritual domains.

Social

The development of communication and interaction skills, and learning how to establish relationships with people.

Creative

The exploration of media and materials in the making of art, enables children to express their creativity and imagination.

Physical

The development of gross motor skills such as running, jumping, climbing and hopping. Generations of children have enjoyed playing in our large sandpit playground - no longer as commonly found in Singapore as they were several years ago. It provides a vast and safe outdoor space and is one of the daily highlights for our children.

Emotional

Spiritual

We believe that Christian education helps to inculcate spiritual values and instil good character in our children.

Curriculum

Adopting the Early Years Development Framework (EYDF) and the iTEACH NEL Framework, our daily routine consists of lessons that cover language and literacy, numeracy, outdoor play, reading/story time, computer, arts & craft, cooking, and Chinese reading programs.

Our indoor play time and various playing corners (e.g. dramatic and construction corners) help children in learning how to take turns and share toys with their friends while they are playing. They are occasionally given small home projects (such as using recycled materials to make craft) and bring them to school for show and tell sessions.

We provide story-telling and weave character-building into the lessons to teach children how to manage their own emotions and also feel for others. In addition, weekly Bible stories, making of Biblical craft and singing of Christian songs are part of the enjoyable routine. A prayer song is sung daily before meals and teachers will lead children in prayers for their friends when they are sick or absent from school.

Highlight of the Year

Our Annual Concert is the highlight of every school year, where the children don special costumes and joyfully perform song and dance items.

Go and open the door.

Maybe outside there’s a tree, or a wood, a garden

or a magic city.

— The Door, by Miroslav Golub

Events

Field trips are organized bi-annually as a way to promote learning outside of the classroom. Parents are strongly encouraged to join the trip as a good opportunity to bond, spend time with their child and to be part of their child’s learning. Every year, we have various celebrations in line with festive seasons, birthdays and special occasions like Children's Day. And at the end of the year, our annual concert showcases the hard work of the children.

The majority of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years.

Mdm Tee Beng Choo, our chef extraordinaire, has been dishing out healthy and wholesome food for our children since 1987! The same teachers usually follow their class through their entire education journey in Green Pastures, thus providing our children with a sense of anchor in their formational years.
