Christmas Family Evening
This evening, when I watched the children perform at our annual Christmas Family Evening, I could not help but wince at the rapid passage of time.
Wasn't it only yesterday that these teenagers were still chubby little cute ankle biters and munchkins? Take a look at the photos above. Adorable lil' fellas, weren't they?
Indeed, they still are adorable.
As I began to whimper over the sands of time, I immediately kicked myself as I remembered God's Word in Ephesians 5:16 that advises us to use our time wisely: "Mak(e) the best use of the time, because the days are evil."
In other words, the advice essentially boils down to: "don't ever regret" and "don't waste time".
It's the same advice that is in Genesis 19:26 where Mrs. Lot (I call her that) had been warned not to look back when she and her family fled their home as God was going to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. But Mrs. Lot did not listen. She looked back with much regret in her heart and as a result, she was instantly turned into a pillar of salt.
Regret is something that I no longer entertain as Lord knows, there are so many things in life that can distract us from what truly matters. Besides, I also do not know what tomorrow holds! All I know is how important every moment is in light of eternity and that I am (but) "a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" (James 4:13-17 NIV).
And so it was that when the now grown up munchkins left the stage, I smiled, comforted in the knowledge that precisely because of the sands of time, these fine young people have grown up well, with much wisdom and love of the Lord.
p.s. thank you, my dear friends, for providing a lovely feast for our dinner. Such a tempting and luxurious spread, a combination which I can only hallucinate about in my dreams. ♥
