“Transfiguration Sunday” celebrates Jesus’ radical change of appearance on the Mount of Transfiguration where three of Jesus’ disciples – Peter, James, and John – saw their Lord in divine splendor with Moses and Elijah.
As written in Matt 17:1-8, Jesus’ face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light.
This mountaintop glimpse of the glorified Christ was a special event God allowed to occur so as to strengthen the faith of the disciples in preparation for the forthcoming challenges they would endure.
In a similar manner, when we experience “mountaintop” experiences, we need to understand that these momentary moments of joy are meant to sustain and strengthen us as we journey on and face the challenging realities in life.
